R.G. Hardie 1956 Silver and ivory hallmarked
R. G. Hardie learned his bagpipe making skills from Robert Reid. After WWII, Hardie, had a brief business relationship with Jack Dunbar and Piobmor Highland Industries before opening his own pipe making shop in 1950. Hardie Bagpipes enjoyed great popularity and demand in the 1950's, 1960's and early 1970's. Hardie chanters also won many World Championships and solo medals during those glory years and are still greatly respected by solo pipers. Hardie matched chanters were the elite chanters of choice for championship pipe bands in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. These pipes have been completely refurbished by Dunbar Bagpipes. The silver is hand engraved. The pipes have the original silver and ivory mouthpiece and original chanter. The chanter is pristine and has not been altered in any way. The pipes are set up with a moose valve and Bannatyne zipper bag and Ross moisture control system. These pipes are vintage and a rare example of a magnificent set of pipes. Bob Hardie kept a large cache of well-aged wood, and the quality of this wood is reflected in the tuning chambers of these drones, which are perfectly even and required no reaming. In classic Hardie fashion, the set is steady and easy to reed. The drone sound is mellow, with a nice bass-tenor balanced drone sound that will not overpower the chanter. Email me about this item.
